Whether you’re a chemistry major building a science-themed puzzle, a studio art major designing the interior of a room, or an engineering student working with magnetic locks, an escape room is an incredible vehicle for interdisciplinary growth. Chapel Thrill Escapes is the nation’s first student-led, on-campus, non-profit escape room. Based on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, we are accessible, affordable, and completely student run. Our teams feature students from diverse majors and backgrounds, and we create opportunities for students to collaborate and put hands-on skills to work. Revenue from the room funds a new room redesign, providing students with a unique creative outlet year after year. During the pandemic, we successfully launched an online escape room and riddle series, which enables us to serve groups of all sizes, while accommodating customers who seek virtual options due to COVID-19. We use 360° photos for an immersive online experience that builds group cohesion and problem-solving skills among guests and artistic and technical skills among student employees.
