We focus on increasing student engagement in STEM through after-school programs and innovative curriculum grounded in social justice. We strive to design programs that provide youth opportunities in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication skills. The focus of our work is to support youth of color, low-income, at risk, and other under-represented populations in science to have the confidence and skills to succeed in not just science but in whatever endeavors they undertake.
Drawing upon skills and knowledge from multiple disciplines, we use novel technologies including transparent soil, 3D printing, physical computing, and laser cutting to engage youth and teachers in learning about how to use these technologies to motivate, engage, and support student learning.
